Brief Definitions of Static and Dynamic Rated Fire Dampers

• A Static fire damper is specified ONLY in HVAC systems with FANS OFF during alarm.
• A Dynamic fire damper is one which is rated to close against a heated airflow velocity of 2000 fpm and 4 inches of water column duct pressure. Dynamic fire dampers also provide added protection in STATIC systems in the event of equipment malfunction.
